The drafting objective
A statement such as "maintain industry-standard security" may express an aspiration, but it is difficult for a board, product owner, customer or regulator to test. Convert the required outcome into an obligation with four components: Object: the service, data set, environment or function covered. Control outcome: what must be maintained or performed. Evidence: artefact, record or observable result proving performance. Consequence: remediation, escalation or exit action if evidence shows failure.
As of September 18, 2026, this approach aligns with GDPR Article 32's risk-based security and regular effectiveness testing. It also creates a usable governance record rather than a vendor assurance that cannot be operationally assessed.
